BOTANICAL MEDICINE

Aromatherapy is the practice of using the natural oils extracted from flowers, bark, stems, leaves, roots or other parts of a plant to enhance psychological and physical well-being, first practiced in India, France, England, and the United States since the 11th Century. The National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy (NAHA) defines aromatherapy as "the therapeutic application or the medicinal use of aromatic substances (essential oils) for holistic healing.

Essential Oils are believed to stimulate smell receptors in the nose, which then send messages through the nervous system and to the part of the brain the brain that controls emotions. Some of the health benefits of aromatherapy include its ability to reduce anxiety, ease depression, boost energy levels, speed up the healing process, eliminate headaches, boost cognitive performance, induce sleep, strengthen the immune system, reduce pain, improve digestion, and increase circulation. It offers a natural, organic alternative to pharmaceuticals, working to enhance lifestyle modifications that can further lessen stress, such as meditation, diet and exercise.
